Logos 2.0A is more than a Bible-search program. It is a complete
environment for Bible research. In addition to various Bible texts, it
includes hypertext-linked reference books such
as lexicons, Bible dictionaries, commentaries and an atlas, along with
some devotional books. Logos 2 combines the polished Windows
user interface found in earlier versions of Logos with the powerful
CD-WORD Library collection of online reference books.
A single search query can find information in the entire library at
one time or a selected subset of the library. Clicking on a highlighted
word displays a relevant article in a related reference book. For example,
clicking on a word in the Greek New Testament can display an article in
any of several lexicons or Bible dictionaries. Once the idiosyncrasies
of searching and browsing are learned, Logos 2 can be a powerful
and flexible environment for serious Bible study.
Bible Texts and Reference Tools.
The Logos 2 CD-ROM comes in 4 "levels", each with a
variety of Bible texts and study tools. If a desired book is not included
on the level purchased, it can be unlocked from the CD-ROM by calling Logos
and purchasing a key code. It is generally more economical to purchase
a standard set, rather than purchasing the works piecemeal, even if a few
works are included that are not of interest. Most seminary students, scholars
and pastors with a basic knowledge of Greek and/or Hebrew, will find level
III to be the ideal combination. This level includes morphologically tagged
texts of the Greek New Testament, Septuagint and Hebrew Bible. These are
necessary for serious word studies and study of the sentence structure
of the Bible. The Greek New Testament uses the excellent Gramcord tagged
text. This is the most reliable tagged NT text available and is generally
superior to the Friberg text used by most other Bible-search programs (see
Interpretive Implications of Using Bible-Search
Software for New Testament Grammatical Analysis for more information
on differences between machine-readable Bible texts).

books included on the Logos 2 CD-ROM (valid as of June 1996).
All texts and reference books are opened from a library "browser"
window. The browser lists all books available on the CD-ROM. By clicking
on the name of a book, a table of contents for that book is shown in a
hierarchical tree format. Click on a chapter to open to that chapter or
press Enter to open at the beginning of the book. Unfortunately
the browser takes up a significant portion of the screen and it insists
on always being on top of other windows, unless it is completely removed
from the screen. It would be helpful if there was an option to make the
browser window a window that could be hidden behind other windows.
