I am the editor of CALL @ Chorus, a website dedicated to issues in Computer-Assisted Language Learning. If you are interested in reviewing CALL software or books, if you have software or books that you would like us to review, or if you would like more information about CALL at Chorus, please contact me. From 1981 until 1993 I worked as a language instructor--mostly teaching English as a Second Language (ESL)--at several universities and language schools around the world. In 1987 I arrived in San Francisco, California and began working at the UC Berkeley English Language Program, where I became interested in the world of multimedia and the Internet. Soon I began exploring how the evolving technologies could assist in foreign language instruction, and the next thing I knew I had embarked upon a second career, this time as a multimedia and internet producer. Nowadays, I continue to teach ESL on a part-time basis at UC Berkeley, while pursuing full-time work along the information superhighway. Since 1993, I have been deeply involved in Web and multimedia development as both an author and designer of Websites and educational CD-ROMs through a company I founded called duber dot com (formerly "CALL Multimedia"). I have worked on five educational CD-ROM titles as interactive writer, designer, programmer, and/or project manager, and have launched several major websites. Also, I have led a series of workshops specifically on Web authoring and design, and have given several plenaries and many presentations on topics in Computer Assisted Language Learning. Currently, in addition to my multimedia development and consulting work at duber dot com, I serve as section-editor for this (CALL @ Chorus) website, while leading the production of a number of online educational and business-related interactive projects. I am also co-manager of TESLCA-L, an online discussion list for teachers and developers interested in topics related to the use of computer assisted technologies in the instruction of English as a Second Language. I am a graduate of The University of Michigan (1985) with both a BA and MA in Linguistics and a concentration on TESL/TEFL. Since graduating, I have led university level ESL programs on 5 continents, and was a senior member of UC Berkeley's English Language Program for over 8 years. If you'd like to know even more, feel free to take a look at my latest curriculum vitae or my online portfolio. Questions or comments? Send me email at: jim@duber.com. Last updated August 10, 2001 |
