The ideal computer-based research system has yet to be invented, but the reviews and essays collected here will provide you with a sense of what can be done now.

New for May, 1999
» Review of Bookends Plus 5.0, by Donald MacRae.

We are currently seeking reviews and essays that describe software and procedures for computer-based research other than bibliographical database software. In other words, if you'd like to review or discuss tools such as the online OED or the web-based Uncover Reveal, please contact the editor.

A bibliographical software package provides a database in which you may store publication information for your scholarly references. Most packages provide the additional capability of scanning an existing document and updating shorthand names for individual references with the full bibliographical format. Some of the packages provide tools for downloading additional references from CDROM, the web, or library catalogs.

Contributors to this and other Chorus sections are always wanted. Please see our Contributor's Guidelines.
