The Symposium on Multilingual Student Writers, started in Spring 2004, is sponsored by The College Writing Programs, Undergraduate Division of the College of Letters and Science.
Update for 2008-2009
We appreciate coming together with you at UC Berkeley to discuss the needs of multilingual student writers at the college level. This year, however, we have found it necessary to postpone the next Symposium on Multilingual Student Writers until fall 2009.
We thank each of you for supporting the symposium in the past, and we look forward to continuing the tradition of coming together to discuss our work with multilingual student writers during future symposia.
Goals
- To provide a venue for writing instructors throughout Northern California to network and share classroom ideas, techniques, and strategies;
- To enrich teachers’ professional knowledge in the field of Second Language Writing; and
- To raise awareness of challenges multilingual student writers face
Format
The symposium consists of short presentations on relevant topics followed by interactive work group sessions. This format is intended to create a forum in which instructors can reflect on and gain insight into ways of addressing multilingual student needs in the writing classroom and leave with hands-on activities, techniques, or approaches they can adapt for use in their specific educational settings.
